Voice calls and IM: Skype
Skype is the most popular application to make voice and video calls over the Internet used by more than 500 million people. Make free calls to other Skype users or call landline and mobile numbers at low rates.
Skype also offers conference calls with multiple participants, instant messaging and desktop sharing for remote presentations and product demonstrations.
Skype is available for Windows, Mac and Linux and also on several mobile platforms like iPhone, Nokia and recently Android and Blackberry.
Document Sharing: Dropbox
Dropbox offers 2GB of online space for free that you can use to store your private documents and also share them within your company or with customers. After installing the client application it is extremely easy to use as you access your online documents as a if they were in a local folder. Morover you can access your documents from any computer at any time through a web browser.
The client application is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and they also provide native apps for iPhone, Android and Blackberry.
Application/Web Development: Netbeans
Netbeans provides an integrated development environment (IDE) for Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris that supports Java, Ruby, C/C++, PHP and other languages out of the box. It is based on a plugin architecture to add new functionality and support for external services. It comes with support for SVN. The Eclipse IDE also provides a very good alternative.
Source Code Repository: Assembla
Assembla offers a free private SVN or GIT repository where you can store the different versions of your sources allowing several developers to work on the same project. It is a good way to start. The good thing is that when you have more resources you can upgrade to a premium account that integrates a bug tracking tool, project management, a wiki, etc.
